Revolut is one of the most popular digital banking apps in the world, and unlike traditional banks, it lets anyone earn more by either referring other people or investing in cryptocurrencies and/or in a variety of companies all around the world, for as little as $1.00. But is it worth your time and money?
With Revolut, you’ll have the ability to get a digital bank account in minutes, and a digital and physical debit card for online purchases and ATM withdrawals around the world. Apart from that, you can make money in a few ways, whether that’s by bringing referrals, investing in stocks, or buying and investing in cryptocurrencies. But is Revolut worth it in 2025?
What is Revolut?
Simply put, Revolut is a digital web banking app that anyone can download, sign up for an account, and get their own bank account with an IBAN within minutes. With each bank account, you also get a digital card, and a one-time digital card that you can use specifically for websites that you don’t trust that much. Once you register, you can also order your own physical card that you can use for payments or ATM withdrawals.
You can send or receive money as you would with any traditional bank account, and you can even create multiple digital pre-paid cards if you’re constantly making online payments and want to be extra careful. You can also quickly send money to your friends and family and save them as contacts, use Revolut to get paid by your employee/company, or even as a cheaper way to make payments when you’re traveling in other countries.
Starting with Revolut is easy and straightforward, as you can easily visit their website or download their official app, register for an account, verify your identity, and you’re good to go.
Tip: A great way that you can use the one-time digital card that you get for free from Revolut is by using it for websites, platforms, and applications that ask you to sign up for their free trial, but they require a credit card to be applied first for verification. With this card, they’re going to be unable to make any automatic payments.
How to make money with Revolut
Currently, there are three main ways that you can use to make money using Revolut, and they’re all legit. There aren’t any limitations on the amount of money that you can make using the digital bank app, and you’ll get everything to your Revolut account.
1. Make money by referring people
The first and simplest way to make money with Revolut is by referring other people. Each time someone’s signing up for an account, verifying their identity, and spending a few bucks through the app, you’ll receive money. Sometimes the company may start a specific promotion in which you’ll get even more money for referring other people for a few days, so make sure to always check their latest news and offers.
For example, as of this time of writing and for the next 13 days, Revolut is giving me €50,00 for each friend that I invite. To get this amount of money, the referrer has to complete the registration, add money to their account, order a physical card, and make 3 purchases of €5,00 minimum each. Although for a traditional affiliate marketer may seem like a lot of steps that someone has to take if you want to make €50,00, if you think more about it, it’s a pretty cool offer.
To start referring friends, family, colleagues, and so on, follow the following steps:
- Sign in to your Revolut account.
- Tap on your profile’s picture at the top left corner.
- Tap on “Invite friends“.
- Revolut will show you how much money you’ll make and what your friends will have to do in order to earn from referring them.
- Tap on the “Invite friends” button.
- Select your contacts and send them an SMS with the invitation link, or tap on the “Share link” to get your unique URL and share it across the web.
That way, you can make money whenever someone signs up for an account and completes all the steps that Revolut requires.
2. Buy cryptocurrencies
Revolut makes buying and selling cryptocurrencies a very, very easy, and straightforward process, and anyone can do it without having any previous knowledge. From your Revolut account, simply tap on the “Crypto” icon that’s located in the main bottom icon menu of your screen, and if that’s your first time, you may have to follow a few steps until the tab is accessible.
From the Crypto section, you’ll be able to see how many cryptocurrencies Revolut supports, and you have the option to trade, receive, send, or buy new cryptos. You can find more information about each crypto just by tapping on it, such as statistics, market cap, rank, 24-hour trading volume, and the latest news. You can add specific cryptos to your favorites list to quickly find them the next time you open the application.
Now, it’s no secret that even if Revolut makes it extremely easy to buy and sell cryptocurrencies, that doesn’t mean that the same applies when it comes to actually earning. Yes, there are many people who made lots of money by investing in crypto, some were simply lucky, while others knew what they were doing. It’s important to research what cryptos are available, how people invest, and what you need to know before spending any bucks on any crypto.
If it was that easy, anyone would do it, wouldn’t they? It’s like investing in stocks, sometimes you win, other times you lose. It’s important to know what you’re doing and have the necessary skills and knowledge before making your first move.
3. Invest in stocks
Although a bit different, Revolut also provides a section called “Invest” from which you can – yes, you’ve guessed it – buy stocks. With Revolut Invest, you can trade from over 4,500 financial instruments, and that means choosing between stocks, ETFs, bonds, commodities, and CFDs (Contracts for Difference). It’s pretty easy and straightforward and you can do that straight from within the app.
For beginners, Revolut makes it easier to invest by providing features such as the robo-advisors option, which offers automated portfolio management and extended trading hours (meaning that you can trade outside of the standard market hours). As with cryptos, investing comes with lots of risks, so make sure to do your research, as the world of investing is quite volatile.
4. Earn free cryptos with Revolut’s Crypto Learn
If you’re looking to start making your first cryptocurrencies without investing and while you learn more about crypto investing, Revolut has an amazing feature called Crypto Learn. Basically, the company gives you a couple of short courses that you can complete within minutes, and, each time that you pass one, you get rewarded with free crypto.
Although it won’t make you rich, as you’ll be earning a few cents per lesson, it’s the perfect way to start seeing some movement in your Revolut Crypto account, and learn more about those cryptos, why they’re created for, and how they work – and hey, why say no to some free cryptos anyway, right? As of this moment of writing, Revolut currently provides lessons to earn free Polkadot (DOT), iExec (RLC), Oasis (ROSE), and Sui (SUI).
So, how do you start with those lessons? Tap on the “Crypto” tab in your Revolut app and scroll down until you find the “Learn” option under the “Features” section. Tap on the “Learn” option and Revolut will display all the available courses that you can take – and how much money in cryptos you’ll learn completing them. In my case, I was able to earn €5.30 in cryptos within a few minutes, while I learned a lot about some cryptocurrencies that I didn’t know much about.
Using Revolut to save money from various fees
The last time that we traveled to Budapest, our local bank had a fee of over 7% per every transaction for everything that we were buying, from a cup of coffee to a sandwich. With Revolut, we had zero fees, and we could pay everywhere without any issues whatsoever. We didn’t use it to withdraw money from any ATM, but because some locals only accept cash, you can do that too for a smaller fee, but the cost depends on each bank.
When you make purchases through Revolut, the company also rewards you with Rev Points, which you can use to specific companies to buy something cheaper, such as an airplane ticket or clothing store, on many online websites, and even in various apps with paid subscriptions.
If you’re traveling a lot or using Revolut constantly, you may also want to check their premium plans, as all of them come with their own benefits. For example, when you’re a premium member you get some extra perks, including discounts on international transfers, higher savings interest rates, travel insurance, discounts on currency exchange, exclusive lifestyle perks, world-class travel benefits, and even a better and customized physical card.
Should I trust Revolut?
That’s the most common question that I get when it comes to digital web banking apps, “Should I trust them?,” “Should I give them my personal information?”, “Are they legit?”, and so on. Well, I’ve been using them for many years now and I didn’t have any issues, and to be honest, I feel safer using Revolut than my traditional bank account. But that’s my choice, and should you make yours.
Generally, Revolut is considered a trustworthy company. Then again, they have over 50 million customers all over the world, that should say a lot. It’s also worth noting that Revolut’s Saving Vaults are insured up to $250,000 by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), meaning that if something happens, you’ll have pretty fair insurance.
However, like any financial service or digital web banking app, you need to use it responsibly and be aware of potential risks. Do your research and spend some time reading customer reviews (such as TrustPilot.com are great places to start), that will give you a better idea of a company. If you’re unsure about it, you can also use many available forums and online communities to ask your questions, and you can start by heading over to /r/Revolut/ in Reddit.
Conclusion: Should you even bother?
Whether you’re a traveler who wants to save as much money as possible from bank fees and earn reward points along the way, an individual looking to start investing in stocks, ETFs, bonds, commodities, CFDs (Contracts for Difference), or even cryptocurrencies, Revolut is a pretty solid option. You can also use it for safer online transactions, and use its one-time digital card to register in websites and platforms that ask you to insert a card as a verification requirement.
What is even greater is that you can create your own savings account, and you can name it as you want, including “Holiday Savings”, or “Car Savings”, and start adding as much money as you can, whenever you want/can. From within the application, you’ll be able to watch some statistics, especially when it comes to the places where you spend your money, which is a nice way to keep track of your spending and learn about your bad – and probably expensive – habits.
And hey, if you go premium, you also get to customize your physical card, and even write on it whatever you want – which is pretty cool.
Have you used Revolut in the past? Are you using it right now? If not, what web banking service do you currently use?
